Our mission is to make drugs safer
Checking your drugs with a teskit isn’t a new solution, nor a particularly unrealistic one, but you wouldn’t know that to ask the average drug user. Most people who use drugs don’t use testkits, either because they’re unaware that they exist, can’t get a hold of them, overestimate how complex they are to use or think they’re entirely illegal. These are the people HUP sets out to reach, a huge community of people for whom this could be a matter of life or death, but who don’t have the opportunity to benefit from them.
In his years spent working in the field of harm reduction, Mark grew increasingly frustrated, both by the uniquely-puritanical approach to drug use in his native Sweden and by the dearth of basic harm reduction resources across the whole of Scandinavia. He couldn’t even get hold of a simple testkit in Sweden.
In order to solve this problem, HUP was born. Since our foundation in 2016, we have had the simple goal of making these tools as accessible as possible to as many people as possible.
It seems like those people are responding, and not just in Sweden: since our founding, we have provided tens of thousands of testkits to customers in 56 countries. Earlier this year, we opened our first US-based centre for production and distribution to enable effective worldwide delivery, making us one of only a handful of providers who can get a testkit to you no matter where you are.
This is what we do.
Giveback to communities
1. We believe that anyone who is interested in harm reduction should be able to access the resources they need. As such, we run regular giveaways in online communities like Reddit.com to provide free testkits to those who need them, but may not be able to afford one.
2. With the help of our partner RollSafe, we have begun to make regular donations to MAPS (the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies) to assist their work in testing substances ranging from cannabis and magic mushrooms to MDMA and ketamine for clinical use – if adopted, their findings could change the world of psychiatry.
We work locally
We partner with local organizations who are committed to reducing harm.
We are improving testkits.
To keep up with the changing world of illicit drugs, we are creating resources as dynamic as the drug market itself: in collaboration with Energy Control International, we are building a database of laboratory-verified results for brand new drugs as they emerge. This means that when you use our results tool, your testkit is getting more powerful with every new sample we can get our hands on.
We want to do more.
Much of the power of a movement like this one comes from autonomous community action, which is exactly why we want to support grassroots harm reduction initiatives just as much as we do these bigger institutions.
If you, either as part of an existing service, a group of friends or you by yourself, want to join us in reducing harm, check out our Getting Involved page for more details or get in touch with us directly at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll do our level best to bring you into the action.
